Fruugo X-mas 2009 competition results

Sadly our Christmas competition has come to an end and we’d like to thank all the participants for taking part in it. We hope that you all enjoyed our 2009 Christmas competition!

We are delighted to announce the winners (and the happy owners of an Apple iPod Touch 8 GB):

Tuomas Siitonen (week 1)
Piia Heikkinen (week 2)
Heli Torniainen (week 3)
Lotta Saha (week 4)

As you voted for the best Christmas gift idea on the Fruugo’s competition pages, we now know that Suunto wrist computers make a perfect Christmas gift. Looks like there will be many more sporty and active people around Finland in year 2010! ;)

If you don’t own one, here’s your chance – Fruugo offers free shipping on various Suunto products until Christmas.

If you’re still in the midst of the holiday season craze running around in search of Christmas gifts for your friends and loved ones, make sure to stop by Fruugo.

We chose the best Christmas gift ideas for you this year – from sports and outdoor equipment to health and beauty products. There is still a lot to choose from with discounted prices and free shipping – hurry to order before the offers expire!

Make sure to place your orders before the 15th of December and your gifts should make it in time for Christmas. Unfortunately purchases from Fruugo’s foreign retailers will no longer make it on Santa’s sleigh. But aren’t gifts great to get after Christmas too?

Once again congrats to the winners and thank you all for taking part in our competition!

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Dutch magazine Twinkle writes about Fruugo

Yesterday we were in touch with a journalist from Twinkle. Twinkle is a well-known Dutch magazine for webshop owners and retailers published monthly. Twinkle writes about new developments, trends and practical information in the online business and runs a weblog updated with news every day: http://twinklemagazine.nl/.

Twinkle heard the news about the last month’s critical phase and temporarily lay-offs at Fruugo. After speaking to us in the Netherlands, the journalist published this positive article (in Dutch) on Fruugo’s situation in their weblog. The headline reads “Fruugo continues their activities after the lay-off period!”.

The positive character of this interview will help us grow even faster in the Netherlands. The retailers and webshops we’ve spoken to so far are extremely enthusiastic about the Fruugo concept and believe that this is the future of e-commerce. As of today, we’ve signed 50+ webshops within our focus categories: Health & beauty, Clothing & accessories, Kids & babies, and Sports & outdoor, and there is much more to come.

Fruugo is moving forward and the amount of retailers and products in the shop is growing every month!

It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it, and we love doing it. Come join us now!

Purple Rain

The latest Fruugo release is out – and we’re all wearing purple today!

The Purple Rain release introduces:

  • Brand new product page layout: we’ve improved the selection of product variants for products where multiple alternatives exist (colour combinations, multiple retailers selling a product and so on).
  • Fruugo departments: we’ve reshuffled the store departments by combining the former Baby and Toys & games departments into Kids & babies; and merging Media & entertainment with the Electronics department. Less departments make it easier to navigate and find exactly the products you’re looking for, or discover great stuff you had no idea you needed.
  • Latest additions to the shop: we’ve added lots of products from brands like:

Stay tuned and happy shopping!

P.S. See more at the Release notes page.

Fruugo - alive and kicking

We’re finally here to share the latest news from the Fruugo universe and shed some light on the recent events that you may have heard of from the Finnish media. So, read on!

Our financial situation has been tough during this fall, but the immense efforts and dedication of everyone at Fruugo, not to mention the trust in the idea behind Fruugo, have let us overcome the biggest obstacles. All challenges aren’t behind us just yet, but we have room to concentrate on the tasks at hand and continue working on the service full steam ahead.

The sad news is that we had to go through a lay-off process and part with nearly half of our team, at least for the time being. We are a much smaller team now, focusing primarily on the business side of things, while still putting a considerable effort in the development of the Fruugo service. We’re on the right track and things are looking good – the shop is open for everyone in Finland, Holland and Sweden, and it’s full of excellent products and great deals, too!

You may have noticed that some of the shop’s departments have a larger and deeper product selection than the others – this is no accident. We are mainly concentrating on the Health & beauty, Baby, and Sports & outdoor departments – and we’ve already come a long way! We can boast an extensive selection of hair care, body care & skincare products, perfumes, and much much more at highly competitive prices.

So come on in, browse, discover, and shop. And when you do, please share your thoughts with us. Are there specific brands or products you’d like to see at the shop? Or maybe features that you want Fruugo to add? Anything at all you wish to tell us – we’d love to hear!

Juha Usva, CEO, Fruugo

P.S. Fruugo is going to Turku! We’ll be spending the weekend at the Osaava Nainen 2009 fair, the biggest women’s event in Finland. This year the fair revolves around health & beauty and well-being. To find out more check out the Osaava Nainen website at www.osaavanainen.fi. This is our first participation in a public event and we are childishly excited about it! We can’t wait to demonstrate our webshop and let the visitors smell and touch the kinds of products sold at Fruugo.
